First off, let me start by saying CONGRATS!! It takes a whole lot of courage to say yes to starting your own business. It’s a big, scary decision to make, so you deserve a medal just for taking that flying leap into entrepreneurship. So, let’s talk about what to expect as a new LuLaRoe retailer.
Initial Excitement
There is nothing like the excitement when your initial boxes show up. There is so much that’s possible with the inventory that’s contained in the boxes. Don’t worry, feeling slightly overwhelmed is normal. Break it into small, bite-sized chunks. Unpack all of the Irma’s, and then go eat lunch. Do the Perfects and then reward yourself with a walk. You can do this! I believe in you!
Don’t Burn Out!
Now trust me, I remember that excitement. It was all I wanted to do, all I wanted to talk about, all I thought about. Calm yourself, grasshopper. If you go, go, go, you’re setting yourself up to burn out. Don’t be scared to shut the door to your room and walk away for a bit. Actually, I challenge you to do it. You’ll come back feeling rejuvenated and with fresh eyes. Sometimes taking a mini-break can be the best thing you can do for your business.
There WILL be Low Times
It invariably with come. That first low. You didn’t score a collection at a launch. You oversold a piece. USPS lost your package. A rack collapsed. You didn’t hit your sales goal. Your party that you were counting on cancelled. You’ve spent the last hour sitting on your floor crying. Girl, I have been there. There have been days when I have cried and told my husband that I wanted to ship it all back. Noir Collection 2017? I didn’t get a single piece. I feel like I deserve a t-shirt for surviving that shit.
I give you permission to wallow in the feeling that the world is ending for five minutes. I tell the girls on my team that they get the keys to the BMW for five minutes. Wait, the BMW?? Yes, Bitch, Whine, and Moan. But then you have to put on your big girl britches and deal with it. I ask myself two questions. Is the problem within my control? Is this REALLY going to make or break my business? Remember Noir? I didn’t get that shit and I’m still here. I also survived the Great TC Leggings Shortage of 2016 AND when Mark decided to shut down the shipping line. I went 3 weeks without receiving any new inventory. That all sucked, but I had other items I could sell. I just had to get out of my own way and think outside of the box. This can be a major struggle that’s never discussed when talking about what to expect as a new LuLaRoe retailer.
I always go back and ask myself those two questions. Is the problem within my control? Is this REALLY going to make or break my business? If I can control it, try to think outside of the box. How can you fix it? If you can’t control it, think about how can you overcome it. And be ok walking away for a bit. You really might need that break, a hot bath, and a glass (or bottle) of wine. Take the BMW for a five minute spin. It’s good to do every once in a while!
The Good Outweighs the Bad
LuLaRoe has seriously blessed me. I have found my self-purpose, a confidence, and a joy to go to work every day. I have never felt that any of my previous jobs truly paid me what I’m worth. I get to set my own hours, I wake up when I’m ready to, and I’m making more than my husband. I get to make women feel beautiful every single day. I have meet some amazing friends that I would not have meet without LuLaRoe. I’ve reconnected with other friends who truly support me. The people probably are the best part of this job.
Do I work hard? You betcha! But I love it. For me, this isn’t a hobby. This is work, my job. But, it’s so worth it! I said it before, but the pay I receive is directly related to the amount of work I put in. If I had to make this decision again, I would do it over and over again. My biggest regret? I wish I would have signed up earlier.
