When LuLaRoe released the Carly in July of 2016, I wasn’t totally sold on her at first. Let’s be honest, this dress looked like an oversized bag. Don’t get me wrong, I love LuLaRoe, but some of the photo shoot images don’t show the dresses in the most flattering light. Nevertheless, I gave the Carly a shot. HOLY CRAP! It was a-freaking-mazing once I got it on my body! I listened to others and sized down twice. After that first brick red and gray striped Carly hit my body, I knew I was sold. I thoroughly believe that the LuLaRoe Carly is the most versatile dress in my closet.
I’m not going to lie to you. I’m a really lazy person when it comes to getting dressed. I believe in functionality to clothes. I have a hard time getting behind pieces that don’t make sense to me. Silk scarf during summer? Umm, why? Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE dressing up and feeling pretty about once every other week, but the rest of the time, I’m a utilitarian in my own personal style. If I can’t see a clear purpose to why I’m wearing something, I’ll probably only wear it once. But the Carly? She’s so EASY! Throw one on with some Chuck Taylors and you’ve got yourself a cute and totally slacker outfit. Feeling slightly fancy? Throw on a Joy or a Sarah! Ok, so it’s that every once in a blue moon where I get a wild hair up my ass and I feel like trying. The Carly pairs perfectly with the Monroe, knotted up over a Cassie skirt, or with a belt, some makeup and heels. This dress is a dream because of how easy it is to dress up or down. This is a HUGE reason why I feel like the LuLaRoe Carly is the most versatile dress in my closet.
The Carly has played a crucial part in my struggle with Celiac disease. I’m sure you’re all like, “Wait, what the hell are you talking about?”, but I’m serious. I struggle with bloating, and the Carly is incredibly forgiving. I can hide my “bloat baby” under one. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t stop when I’ve had a bad day, so I need comfy clothes so I can adult. The Carly is perfect because it’s fitted through the chest but loose through the stomach, so I don’t have to sacrifice comfort for fashion. Since it is fitted on the top half, it helps create a waist instead of looking like the dreaded muu-muu. And how about Shark Week? Oh wait, you don’t refer to your period as Shark Week? Do it. It’s fun! The Carly hides all of that water weight your body thinks it needs.
I was taught that layering is how to stay warm. Living in Wisconsin, this info is crucial. I really don’t know why I live in a place where the air hurts your face, but I do. And it’s not feasible to hibernate for 6 months, so I’ve gotten really good at layering. The Carly is a staple for layering. Why? Because it can be used as a shirt, a skirt, and a dress. How do you make it a shirt? Throw it over a skirt or jeans and knot it up. A skirt? Put a shirt over your Carly and knot it up to create a waist. Don’t forget! Creating a waist is crucial to layering and maintaining a figure. (Click HERE to read an article I wrote ALL about this!) And as a dress? Throw a Carly over a Lynnae to make a long sleeve dress! Put on some leggings and top with a Sarah and you have the perfect cold weather outfit!
So, Wisconsin is super temperamental at best with the weather. The saying is that if you want the weather to change, just wait 5 minutes. It can literally go from snowing to 70 degrees in a matter of days. We just talked about how you have to layer to stay warm, but summer in Wisconsin can be damn hot, too. It’s not the heat that’s the worst. It’s the humidity. Because of all of the lakes, streams, ponds, and other bodies of water, shit gets real humid. I am not a fan, so I try to stay cool any way I can. The Carly is perfect it’s flowy! Hot air does NOT get trapped under a Carly! It’s fantastic over a a swimsuit as a coverup, too! When we went to Mexico last year, I wore a Carly to the airport. Why? Because I knew I could stay cool in Mexico where the AC wasn’t working, but could throw on a sweater and leggings once I got back to Wisconsin to stay warm!
Basically, the Carly is my jam. Because of her versatility, the LuLaRoe Carly is the most versatile dress in my closet. If you would like to come check out my selection of Carly’s (and trust me, I’ve got a LOT), join the shenanigans HERE!
