Setting goals is important no matter what business you’re in. If you don’t have something to strive for, what pushes you? By setting goals, you are able to see what progress you’ve made. Yeah, I know. You’ve heard this before. You need to set goals. But I’m going to tell you about setting goals that meet specific criteria so that you can maximize your goal-setting. You need to set S.M.A.R.T. goals to truly achieve the most out of your goals. So, what are S.M.A.R.T. goals? They are specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-based. Now, let’s break down why your goals need to meet each of these criteria.
Specific
Your goals need to be specific. It’s easy to set a broad goal, such as taking over the universe. But the specific goals will mean more. However, we don’t really know how big the universe is, so this goal is the exact opposite of specific. But if you say that you want to take over Earth, it’s more specific. So, what out world! Here we come!
Measurable
Your goals need to be measurable. Let’s go back to the world domination example. How do you measure an idea as large as that? That’s not as easy to measure. However, taking over one country by next month is measurable. But I’m pretty sure that this isn’t going to be a goal of your business, unless you’re Alexander the Great. So, you could set a measurable business goal of growing your followers or sales by X%. You can measure that by comparing 1 month to the next. It helps you see how you’ve grown or figure out what areas you need to focus on.
Attainable
Your goals need to be attainable. Let’s be honest. World domination would be pretty cool, but is it attainable? Probably not, Napoleon. So, let’s scale down your goals. Your goal should be something that you can actually achieve, and that you want to attain.
Results-Oriented
Your goals need to be results-oriented. The easiest goals to set are based on results. Why? You have an end. You know what you want to achieve.
Time-Based
Your goals need to be time-based. Having a deadline always works to light a fire under my ass. Hi, my name is Devin, and I’m the QUEEN of procrastination. Knowing that a deadline is looming over my head can really get my hustle game really going.
Putting together all of these criteria creates some kick-ass goals. Have you had a major break-through using S.M.A.R.T. goals? I’d love to hear all about it! Send me a message HERE to tell me all about your wins! Or feel free to message me HERE!
