Graduation season is upon us. If your school is anything like ours the gym and fieldhouse are “air conditioned”. They claim it’s there, but let’s be honest. It’s pretty much non-existent. Cram in 1,000+ people and these rooms become hotboxes or torture devices. While you’re proud of your accomplishment or the accomplishment of your family member, sitting in the heat might not sound like an afternoon of fun. And how do you dress so you can stay comfortable?! Let me help break this down into outfit choices for both the grad and the family attending.
While the idea of wearing nothing under your cap and gown is appealing for the grad, it’s probably not the best idea. I know you’re thinking that no one will see what’s under your gown, but trust me, you’ll want to unzip that puppy as soon as you can for some airflow. And your family is going to want a million pictures because they’re just THAT proud of you. So, what do you do? Read up friends, I’ve got some amazing tips.
Go for flowy silhouettes.
Things that cling are going to make the sweat situation worse. Wear dresses and shirts that allow air to flow. LuLaRoe’s Carly dress and Perfect Tee will be great solutions. And while the Cassie skirt is fitted, the fabric used it designed to breathe. And the best part? You look put together! Use your shoes and accessories to dress your outfit up or down.
Fabric choices will make all of the difference.
I’m a big fan of LuLaRoe because the fabrics don’t wrinkle. Sitting down while you’re sweating is the instant recipe for wrinkles. You want to wear fabrics that aren’t going to show sweat. Liverpool, or the material that the Amelia dress is made in, is a fantastic one! And the Amelia dress has pockets. You can stick your Kleenex (because you know you’ll cry watching your baby walk across that stage) or your cell phone (you know you’re going to take a selfie) in the pockets!
Another favorite fabric of mine is modal. It’s a blend that feels like a silkier version of suede. It’s not the feel to the fabric that truly makes it special. Modal is amazing at moisture wicking. It will help you feel cooler and drier. ITY, or the slinky material is another material that is at the top of my list. This is the fabric that the maxi and Azures are commonly made from. I love both of these skirts because they move and breathe!
So, if you truly want to stay cool and comfortable in the heat of a graduation, make sure you’re picking fabrics that will work with you, not against you. You can also pick styles that will be the most forgiving with the heat.
