If you ask anyone that uses social media as part of their marketing strategy, Instagram is probably one of the tools in their arsenal. But are they using it to the full capacity that Instagram offers? If they’re not using Instagram stories, then no, they aren’t. Instagram stories are still a fairly new additions, but if used correctly, they can definitely help grow your reach!
Why should you use Instagram stories?
Usually, the images we put out on Instagram tend to curate an image that we’ve got everything put together. Well, let’s be real. If you’re like me, you run on caffeine, dry shampoo, and comfy pants. Is this image that you’re putting on Instagram truly showing your personality? Probably not entirely. It hard to truly show all of your personality with a picture. So why not use video? Video can be another tool in your arsenal to create relationships. People will relate more to a video than just a picture because it shows you as a human, flaws, quirks, and all.
Create content to educate.
I always hear people say that their lives are boring. Trust me, I don’t live an extravagant life. But what you might find boring, others will love. We have a potato farm. It’s mundane and dirty to me, but most people find it super interesting. There are quite a few people that don’t realize that potatoes are grown here in Wisconsin, so I use my Instagram stories to educate them about potatoes. It’s been a little slow lately because I’m waiting on spring, but you bet I did a series of videos when we got 30″ of snow just a few weeks ago!
If you sell clothing like me, you can use these little videos to highlight. What can you highlight? You can show the new styles or pieces you have, your outfit, outfits you’ve put together, or show sneak peeks and tease them to join wherever you would like to send them!
Create content to engage.
Ask them questions! I’m not going to lie. I vote all of the time! Why? It’s a way to give feedback that’s low risk. Asking simple questions like burgers or tacos are perfect places to start. This or That style questions allow people to give their opinion without a ton of risk or time. Asking for them to DM you their favorite burger recipe might help you, but you probably won’t get as much engagement. Keep it light and easy, and you’ll get people engaging!
