Summers can be expensive. Everyone wants to take a vacation, you’ve got to do something with your kids during the day (you know, if you have kids), and now you have to travel to your direct sales convention?! This is one more expense that you don’t need, but trust me, you want to go to your convention (HERE is an article on why you need to go to your convention). However, you can do your convention for cheap. How? Let’s break this down!
Travel-FOR CHEAP!
Flying is the quickest way to get to where you want to go, but it might not be the cheapest option for you. If you want to keep costs down when you travel to your direct sales convention, you might want to look into driving. For me, it wouldn’t be feasible to do this because it would take 4 days to get there and 4 days to get home. If driving is an option, check and see if anyone would be able to carpool with you.
If you do have to fly, look for an airline like Spirit or Frontier which fly for “bare fares”. Make sure you look into all of the charges possible with these airlines because if you pay for everything possible, your ticket can cost as much as a full-service airline. If you’re looking for a cheaper flight on a full-service airline, you can always book using basic economy. Yet again, look into what you can and cannot bring, particularly a carry-on. Lodging-FOR CHEAP!
Your company might set up a block of rooms close to the venue where you get a discount. If you’re trying to cut down on costs, sharing a room with more people will help cut down on price per person. I know this is common sense, but my goal is to give you every option. If there aren’t rooms in the hotel block or there isn’t a hotel available at all, look into options like couch surfing or AirBnB. Many direct sales teams will have a group for people heading to their convention. Make sure to check and see if your team has a group and if anyone is looking for a roommate!
Food-FOR CHEAP!
If you’re on a budget, don’t feel like you have to go out every night for dinner. Look into the area you will be staying. Is there a grocery store close? If not, some grocery stores do offer a delivery service. If you get an order together over $X, they will waive the delivery fee. Partner with some other people in your hotel, and you can probably hit that dollar amount really quickly! Also, bring a refillable bottle to save on the costs of having to buy something to drink when you’re at the convention.
