The LuLaRoe Joy. Just like the name, it truly bring me joy to create outfits featuring this piece. It’s the perfect layering piece to provide a little flair to an outfit, cover your booty for modesty or confidence reasons, and provide a little extra warmth during colder months. So, let’s cover some of the history leading to the creation of the Joy vest and my favorite ways to wear it!
The History of the LuLaRoe Joy
The Joy’s history actually dates way back. If you look into the history of vests, they actually date back to King Charles II. He started wearing a waistcoat, or the first type of a vest, in around 1660. Waistcoats were worn primarily by men. Around 1900, the vernacular for waistcoats switched to vests here in the United States. Fast forward to around 1970, vests became popular for women, starting first in the work world before evolving towards casual wear. The fringed vest is definitely iconic when someone thinks back to the 1970’s. Vests took a backseat for part of the 1980’s and early 1990’s, but experiences a resurgence in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
LuLaRoe introduced the Joy vest in 2015, and this vest quickly took off as an amazing layering piece!
How to Style the LuLaRoe Joy
Let me say this first. The fit of your Joy depends on the fabric of it. Since the only place the Joy is truly fitted is in the armholes and across the shoulders, don’t feel like you’re tied into one size. I wear a medium or large in a shirt, but have everything from XS-XL for Joys in my closet.
Styling Tips
Now, for some styling tips. There is no right or wrong when it comes to wearing the LuLaRoe Joy. I love to throw it over jeans and a t-shirt or tank top (like the new LuLaRoe Tank. Click HERE to read more.) to add a little pizzazz with an outfit. If you swap out the jeans for leggings, the Joy now can provide a layer of modesty to make sure your booty is covered. You can add a lace Joy over a dress to take the dress up to another level. With some heels and cute jewelry, you’ve now got an outfit ready for date night!
Staying Warm
I live in Wisconsin, so it’s cold here about 70% of the time. Dressing in layers is how you stay warm (click HERE to learn more about my favorite layering tips). I’ll throw the Joy under a Sarah to help create air pockets that help you stay warmer. If you put the Joy and Sarah over a Lynnae, you are set for a Wisconsin winter!
All in all, the Joy is a fantastic piece that you really should have in your closet. It’s versatility alone is reason enough!
