The LuLaRoe Dani Dress-My Honest Review

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Well, the day came that man LuLaRoe retailers never thought would come! LuLaRoe released 2 items that we were told would never come, a TANK and a TANK DRESS (Go ahead, click the words. They’re links to the launch announcements). My box of Dani’s, the tank dress, have finally arrived! I had to try them on in multiple sizes to figure out exactly which size and fabric I liked best. So, let’s get down to it. Here’s my honest review of the LuLaRoe Dani Dress!

Fit On the LuLaRoe Dani Dress

Among LuLaRoe retailers, this was a topic for discussion. Did it fit more like the Julia or the Maria? Is it true to size or do you need to size up or down? There were so many questions, so I decided to put on one (or a few) to give you my opinion.

Note for Reference: I’m very transparent about my body size. I’m 5’4″, a 12/14, wear a small Carly, medium Maria, and large Amelia. I carry my weight in my hips, butt, and stomach. I’m giving you this info so you know what I’m working with in the below photos.

Medium

This is my Maria size. I was wishing and hoping that a medium would work because I have a print that I love, but it was a DEFINITE no-go. So, if you’re an pear/hourglass shape like me, don’t use your Maria size as a gauge.

Large

In the 2 pictures below, I’m wearing a large. I went for a LuLaRoe Dani dress that felt like a cotton t-shirt (the black one) and one that is more of a slinky fabric (the floral). These fit through the chest and hips, but it was a little tighter on my body than the Maria. I felt like the cotton blend had more give than the slinkier fabric. The arm holes were perfect because my bra (band and straps) weren’t exposed.

Extra-Large

In the next 2 pictures, I decided to try on 2 extra-larges. The printed floral is a cotton blend while the navy is ribbed. I preferred the floral in the XL versus the large, but this isn’t a fair comparison since the are different fabrics. I really, really, really wanted to love the ribbed one because you don’t see much in navy in the LuLa-World, but it’s significantly longer than the floral. While this might be perfect for some, I am a little short for the extra length that came with the ribbed fabric.

Styling the LuLaRoe Dani Dress

LuLaRoe billed this dress as an amazing layering piece, so look below for some of my styling tips.

Any of the LuLaRoe Shirts

I’ve heard the complaints. A tank dress in August?! It’s going to be cold soon! I’m all about layering to stay warm, so I plan on throwing a shirt over the LuLaRoe Dani dress to keep warm. In the pictures above, I layered a Lynnae over the Dani. I left it untied in the first picture, but knotted it up in the second to give it a little more of a shape. This could be done with any shirt. I think it would look great with a chambray shirt!

One of the options I’ve seen that I haven’t taken a picture of is wearing a t-shirt (such as a size 14 Gracie) under the LuLaRoe Dani dress. This gives me all of the early 90’s vibes, which shockingly are back on trend!

Add a Layering Piece

These dresses are fabulous on their own, but if you throw on a layering piece, like the Joy, Shirley, Lindsay, or one of the jackets, you’re taking this dress to the next level! I know that adding on one of these items makes me feel more put together or like my outfit is complete. Since I live in Wisconsin, I know that I’ll throw a Sarah over this tank dress as it gets cooler so that I can stay warm! I love that there won’t be extra fabric binding up in the arms when I want to layer (P.S. HERE is an article about my favorite ways to layer).

Overall Thoughts

There was a lot of confusion on what style to compare the Dani to. Should you go with your Maria size? Julia size? In my opinion, I would go true to size. However, be aware that the ribbed fabrics do run longer. I love this dress for the unlimited potential that it has. You can layer so many pieces with the Dani, making it so versatile.
