When people think of LuLaRoe, generally the first thing that comes to mind is the leggings. While these buttery soft leggings definitely are a favorite, they weren’t the product that the company was started with. Well, what was it then? The LuLaRoe maxi skirt! Most people don’t know this fact. Since the maxi has been so influential in LuLaRoe’s history, let’s cover the history of the maxi skirt, some styling tips, and you’ll see why this skirt is one of my favorites!
History of the Maxi Skirt
Looking back on history, skirts and dresses were really the only options that women had to wear until the early 20th century. During the 1920’s, skirts got progressively shorter. During the 1960’s, the mini skirt became incredibly popular, so long skirts took a backseat. However, when the hippie movement started, hemlines started dropping again. Maxi’s truly had a moment during the 1970’s. It was in January of 1970 that Yves Saint Laurent featured maxi skirts in ethnic prints on the runway. The maxi took a back seat during the 1980’s and early 1990’s, but had a revival in the late 1990’s while the bohemian style came into fashion. Since then, the maxi skirt has been a classic in many women’s closets.
Styling the LuLaRoe Maxi Skirt
Most people assume the Maxi skirt is just meant to be worn with a tank top during summer. I’m here to tell you this isn’t the case.
Dressing Down the Maxi Skirt
This is how most people wear the maxi skirt. The maxi is a perfect vehicle for a cute graphic tee, a chambray shirt, or a denim jacket. Since the maxi is so versatile, you can wear sandals, Converse, or boots. I’m also a big fan of this skirt style because I don’t have to shave my legs every day. Let’s be honest women, who has the time or energy to shave every day? The maxi skirt is perfect for hiding this!
Most people associate the LuLaRoe maxi skirt with summer, but I honestly love wearing them year round. Since I live in norther Wisconsin, staying warm during winter can be challenging. I will throw on a pair of leggings under a maxi for some added warmth (want to read more tips about dressing cute but staying warm? Click HERE!).
Overall, the LuLaRoe Maxi skirt is one of my favorites for it’s ease and versatility. This skirt has a long history, but with a few modifications, it has continued to remain in many women’s wardrobe. Will you be rocking the maxi any time soon?
