3 Tips to De-Clutter Your Closet

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Welcome to a fresh start, friends! I know many of you weren’t the biggest fans of 2018, so it’s great to have a blank page! If you’re like me, you want to purge your house of the extra crap. I’m noticing a trend on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and even Netflix where people who are doing all kinds of de-cluttering. Want some tips to help de-clutter your closet?

1. Turn all of your hangers backwards.

I’m sure you’re shaking your head asking what this crazy lady is talking about. First off, let me say this tip is not instantaneous.  You will have to wait a little bit to de-clutter your closet. Flip the hanger so the end of the top  is pointed towards you versus into the closet when hanging on your closet rod. Whenever you put laundry back into your closet, put the hanger back facing the correct way. Anything flipped backwards at the end of a certain amount of time (3 months, 6 months, whatever you decide) is what you should donate. Please use your judgement though. I’m not advocating you donating your wedding dress, yo!

2. Fill your shoes with dryer sheets.

This one has 2 purposes. 1. Your shoes will smell amazing. 2. You’re marking which shoes you don’t wear. If the dryer sheets are still in your shoes in a certain number of months, you then know you haven’t worn them and they should be added to the donation box, therefore helping de-clutter your closet!

3. Get rid of clothes that don’t fit.

Yup. I said it. I know you’ve had that pair of jeans in your closet for 5 years that you’re hoping will fit some day. Well, it’s clutter, and you want to de-clutter your closet. Unless you’re pregnant and your body is changing dramatically, these clothes are mostly clutter. Yeah, I’ll probably catch some flack for this, but with the rate that styles are changing, these items might not be fashionable anymore.

Now, I think this is the most times I’ve ever said the word clutter. But, getting rid of the crap really does feel good. Once you get rid of all the extra junk in your closet, you probably will need to fill in a few holes in your closet. Feel free to join my shopping group HERE.
